This recipe is adapted from America’s Test Kitchen’s “Classic Sloppy Joes.” We simplified the steps (and dishes) because the thickening agents seemed unnecessary.
- In a medium – large skillet (I prefer using a cast iron skillet), heat the olive oil over medium heat and add the chopped onions and garlic. Cook for about 2 minutes until softened.
- Add all of the spices and tomato space and stir in until fragrant and well-combined (a few minutes).
- Add your ground meat of choice (I prefer ground turkey for this recipe); and cook until cooked through
- Add the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and vinegar and cook another few minutes. Keep warm over low heat and then serve on a bun, large slice of toasted sourdough bread, or even on a zucchini boat for a gluten-free option.
